  • I recently had the pleasure of fishing a new R.L. Winston Pure series rod on one of our local brook trout streams. @winstonrods must have had bushy dry flies and native brook trout in mind when they made the Pure 7'6" 3wt. It's a joy to cast, whether flicking a quick shot into boulder filled pockets or threading a bow and arrow cast through overhanging rhodo. If you enjoy pursuing native brook trout on small mountain streams, this rod will make the most of your time chasing gems. Tellico Outfitters is proud to carry these and other fine Winston rods. Check them out for yourself when we open our doors this Spring. • • Thanks @jimmydobes for bringing the goods! #tellicooutfitters #tellicoplains #tellicoriver #nativetrout #brooktrout #flyfishtn #flyfishing #flyshop #fishlocal #shoplocal #winstonrods

  • It’s soul food, that fly fishing. • • • It’s thinking back on last weekend and other moments like these, and it’s the excited anticipation of more to come that give me a little extra push to make it through my work week. This time of year is the most stressful season in my work year and consequently, it’s the time of year when I question and doubt myself and my decision to not pursue a fly fishing career...when I moved across the country, leaving everything I knew and everyone I loved behind, I had grandiose ideas and plans of making this passion my vocation and becoming a lady angler that inspired others. Never once did I ever consider my future self as being a real estate construction superintendent, building multi million dollar homes and condo’s. I’m so glad those dreams never came to fruition because at that time I wasn’t in it for love of the sport or teaching and inspiring others. I was in it for me.. and someone with selfish motives such as that should never be in a position of leadership or be an inspirational icon. I needed to grow up, and I have and still am. My silly misconception of believing I needed to be someone or something to share what I love with others has been proven wrong, and I’m glad. I’ve fallen deeper in love with fly fishing. I loved it then too.. but not like I do now. I don’t know if I could ever fully put to words exactly what it is to me.. in some ways it’s become a coping mechanism for work stress I suppose.. but it’s so so so much more. Fly fishing has changed fly life.. it’s like the rivers, and little trout have become some of the most influential teachers I’ve ever had. And now, when I’m doubting myself and my vocational choices, it’s that deeper knowledge and love for fly fishing and all it encompasses that, perhaps in a counterintuitive way, let’s me know I chose right.. at least for now. 📸 @bjstone14
