Great Meetup tonight at Burges Salmon offices. Big thanks to Kirsty Green-Mann, their Corporate Responsibility Manager, who hosted us. We heard all about her very interesting career path which spanned the engineering, mining and tobacco industries whilst developing Responsible Business practices within them. Overall was quite an eye opener for many of us - who work in the charity sector - to see the sort of positive impact a law firm can have, with their clients, community work and also by treating their own staff well. Hasifa and Anais who do work in the corporate world felt inspired to go and see what changes they can help drive in their own organisations. A very worthwhile couple of hours! We got to explore the building too which was fun 😊

Moms out there, I’ve gotta share a secret with you. No one has it all figured out. By the look of this picture you’d think this boy is an angel & that this mom isn’t exhausted. 👶🏼As a stay at home mom, I spend majority of my day at home with Wyatt, coming up with things left & right to keep him entertained. I miss out on a lot of things during the day because even though he’s a saint, I wouldn’t dare drag him along to some of the things I’d like to go to. 👶🏼 do you find yourself in the same position? Do you know a mom who could hear someone share with them that they agree it’s tough?
👶🏼 I’ve got a solution—> join me on Thursday February 7, 10-11:30am at @thegrocery.detroit with your babes and besties. We will have a conversation about creating healthy habits in your home & I’ll be answering any of your nutrition questions you’ve got about parenting. 👶🏼MOMS don’t look at this and think you won’t fit in. I’m in your shoes and I know there’s a lot of other women who feel the same. 🎫 Link in bio to purchase your ticket. I can’t wait to meet you! 📸: @theupspeakcollective .

Today is my last day being 25. This year, it felt like I had a quarter life crisis, LOL, it sounds funny, but like for real! 25 was the year that something shifted inside me. I decided to own my life instead of my life owning me. I practiced for so long, and I am still practicing everyday on how to be the best version of myself and to be the most authentic me. 25 felt like torture, only because it was darkness I haven’t experienced before. It drug me down and brought me to the darkest place in my shadow and I sat there with the darkness this past year. I looked at it, observed it, held it, nurtured it, loved it. I cried and I slept and I shut my emotions off and shut the world out so I could heal and honor me for a while. It wasn’t selfish. It was selfless because now (so cliche) I feel like the lotus that rose up from the dark muck and has showed up on top of the water basking in the sunlight. I feel I can show up for other people and the world easier now just as the lotus pad allows bugs and turtles to rest on it, it gives them relief and comfort. I am not ungrateful, and I do understand there is so many worse things that can happen/do happen, but this was my personal experience of this year. I am thankful for the hardships I had this past year. It’s made me a more strong, kind, better version of me. It’s helped me to be more compassionate. It’s hard for me to share my story so thank you for listening and hearing me out. Not saying everyday is perfect now, but it’s a hell of a lot better. What i’m trying to say is, THANK YOU 25 for wrecking me so I could rebuild. Cheers to 26 tomorrow! 🥂✨
Yesterday I visited Alex Glass, Head of Business Strategy at @meetup. When you walk in, there are badges that are available to curate conversation. Fun fact: David Siegel, one of the people profiled in my book, is now the CEO of Meetup! Meetup is the quintessential sweet spot company—they leverage tech so that people connect #IRL
