  • I read this article the other day that said something about how people would respect influencers more if they realised how many things we said no to. Well, yes. So here's the thing- Instagram marketing has taken over and as a brand that wishes to reach out to people there is no way you can avoid this platform. Reaching out to influencers is better compared to the advertisements placed on TV,radio,maybe even billboards. When you see an influencer you see them advertising products. What you don't see is the brands that they said no to because they did not connect with the brand. I speak from experience (and I am sure for a bunch of us) when I say there have been more NOs than YES-es for me in whatever little Instagram influencing career that I have had. I have always concentrated on organic content, which is why you will see me publishing so many rants that turn into Medium and blog posts, but that does not mean I will not say yes to a brand if I feel it speaks to my lifestyle. In fact the way I look at it, it's like I am showing my support to a brand because I love what they do and I connect with them and I want to help them grow. This is exactly the kind of mindset that most of the influencers work with, isn't it? Of course everyone has their hits and misses, everyone learns through mistakes, but we learn in the end don't we? There is no harm in helping a business grow if you believe in it and you believe that you and your target audience are a great fit. The point I am trying to make here is that while it might look like an influencer has started doing a lot of sponsored posts there is usually a whole bunch of brands and ideas that they shot down too. Let's not forget the process of saying no to all that money just because we do not relate with a brand is heartbreaking but also super important to maintain authenticity. Yes, the digital world today has made Instagram influencing a way of earning, so why don't we look at it in a positive way and see how brands are trying to reach out to us using the right influencers? #foodforthought
