  • As you can see Daytona is very into stretching! She’s been eating so good with @horse_guard and packing on a little extra for the winter! I stretch her so her armpits are free since her girth has been a little tighter! We had another awesome lesson! They were doing work on the roof so she got a little spooked, but handled it well! #roofersarescary #stretchingisgoodforthebody

  • Well, I guess the news is out! I’m officially part of #teamroeckl I’ve tried quite a few brands of gloves, and I can honestly say that Roeckl is top notch! They give me a lot of grip, protect my hands, and their gloves are super cute! Plus, if you didn’t know, I only have four fingers on each hand, which means I cut off the fifth finger on the glove and sew it up! (Then no one can steal mine 😜) So excited to be apart of the company and see where we go! @roecklequestrian

  • Thinking about how excited I am to ride again and currently procrastinating on packing for Wellington even though I LEAVE tomorrow! Woohoo! I’m so ready to see the sun again and all the fancy horses that I’ll never own 🙃 Also, I’ve been listening to the Mary Poppins Returns soundtrack and it’s just so magical! I’ve always wondered about like listening to music while I’m riding and how that would work..do any of you guys listen to music while you ride?

  • Day one of the clinic is under our belts! It’s so nice to have a fresh pair of eyes that can hone in on some of our problems! Carlos Lopez is a Paralympic Judge and very methodical and took the time to go back through our exercises until I was able to figure out what the problem was so that way I’d be able to fix it. In this clip we’re trying to get Daytona to move off my leg (and we did the other side so she’d move off my whip), which is something that’s always been a problem because I’m very suttle with my cues cause I don’t want to hurt her 😂😂 I also may have kicked his hand while we were doing this...oops! 🤷🏼‍♀️ #DressageClinic

  • All the feels 🥰🥰 I’ve been busy with work and personal life stuff, so I haven’t been to the barn. But, with what happened last weekend I’m ok taking a little break and sorting through my feelings (cause they are valid). On a brighter note, I’ve started watching CHRISTMAS movies now that it’s the Christmas season! We got a Charlie Brown tree cause we’re debating whether or not my cat would destroy a real one 🙄 #catdestroysmychristmastree #allthefeels

  • When I was born, they didn’t think I’d make it a year. I did. When I went to the orphanage in Ukraine, they didn’t think I’d get adopted cause of my deformities. I did. When I came to the US and had surgery to amputate my leg, they didn’t think I’d be able to walk in a prosthetic without a cane or walker. I did. When was ten they thought I couldn’t ride horses cause I was handicapped. I did. When I was 20 they thought I was crazy for training and moving to Texas full time and said I couldn’t make. I did. With thanksgiving right around the corner, I’m taking this week to reflect in an attitude of thanks on my riding career. It’s been a whole YEAR since I’ve started doing Para-Dressage and what a crazy year it’s been! The lows, the highs, the ah-ha moments, the crying, the friends, the horses and every little thing in between would not have been possible if I didn’t do what people say I couldn’t. #idid

  • Ok, I know I was supposed to announce this yesterday, but better late than never...I’M OFFICIALLY A CHOSEN RIDER FOR AMERICAN EQUUS!!!! I remember a little less than a year ago being at WEF and looking at their booth and products (which I had been swooning over on Instagram), and dreaming about the day I’d actually get a pair for myself, and it has HAPPENED! I’m so honored to be able to represent these products and this brand with you guys as we venture alongside each other on this Paralympic journey! I’ve been LIVING for the E’Lan English Stirrups and they’ve already made me 1000% more confident when I’m riding! I’m speechless and so incredible happy! @americanequus #ChosenRider

  • We finished the last day on such a high note! Granted, we hit A LOT more rough spots this lesson than the first, but we got through it! So...what did we learn working with a 5* FEI Paralympic Judge?? 1. Daytona is super strong (a little too strong) and does not want to be supple because that means work 2. Once you get her supple, everything is a ok until you stop to talk about what you’re doing and she decides she’s done 3. At some point she’ll kind of forget you’re on her and just do her own thing, and that’s when you need to snap her back into it and get her attention. 4. Side reins help 5. She needs to develop the right muscles for competition 6. It’s ok to make mistakes, but if you are, you need to just do it and MAKE THEM so that way you can learn from it. Super grateful for this experience and this horse! 🥰

  • Rode the mare today! She was pretty stiff from the cold, but we had a good lesson! We focused on getting supple, and releasing and being soft when she finally would give into the bit. Daytona continues to teach me new things everyday! We have a clinic tomorrow and I’m so EXCITED! (Especially since I just found out about it today 😂) It’s with a Paralympic Judge, and I can’t wait for the feedback I’ll get with my riding and also how we are as a team 🥳 Also, I leave for Wellington in less than a WEEK! Wow! Times flies! Can’t wait to go to WEF and spend time with other horsey friends! Are any of you guys going to WEF? ☺️

  • Thoughts with Al: Herd of Zebras (Part I) I want to share my story a little bit and this might have to be in two parts. I get asked A LOT in regards to what happened to my leg and things of that nature and I guess I’ve never actually shared it on my Instagram! I was born with a super rare condition called Paraxial Tibial Hemimelia. This happens to ONE in a MILLION people and it causes one (or both) of your tibias to not develop (which is your large lower leg bone...and you need to it walk!) I was given up at birth and spent the first year of my life in a hospital surrounded by doctors who didn’t think I’d make it. After I surpassed their expectations, I went to an orphanage near Kiev (which is the capital of Ukraine) and was later adopted by my parents and brought to the US when I was four. I had whatever was left of my lower leg amputated and have been using a prosthetic ever since! Being apart of the herd which is HofZ is absolutely incredible because it allows everyone who has gone through traumatic, life altering changes to have a voice and to have others that support them and just surround them with love. Life gets really messy real quick, and to be apart of something like HofZ is just indescribable. (btw, the founder of HofZ, Forest, kicks butt!) I’m so honored and proud to show my stripes and everything I’ve been through that has made me the person and rider I am today. #HofZ #ShowYourStripes

  • | Happy New Year! 2018 had its ups and downs but in the end we got through it. We can learn from our mistakes, grow and move on from our past. We don’t know what 2019 has coming our way, but our actions can reflect on our future. | -Back to horseback riding, Jake is the horse shown in this picture with me, Ava. In today’s lesson, we did some cross rails, but mainly worked on teamwork with the horse and the rider. Sometimes we don’t understand that going one step backwards will help us go one step forwards. If we rush through everything, it’ll come back to us and it will be much harder to learn. So instead of going back to something you learned 4 months ago, for example, if you notice something you should fix, do it as soon as you can. -Ava (@_avaasil_ )💓 | (tags) #horse #horses #horsey #horseback #horsebackriding #horsebackrider #horsebackriders #horsebackridersofinstagram #horsesofinstagram #horsejumping #ilovemyhorse #horsebackridinglessons

  • Not exactly sure why my tongue is sticking out...but! If you remember a few posts ago I was talking about how I wanted to figure how to start posting again and how I made a little contraption for my nub. Well, I stuffed it with a towel (have yet to get sheepskin which has been recommended), and I’m posting! Kind of 😂😂😂 I haven’t done it over a year and honestly completely kind of forgot how so I don’t even know if this looks right or not 😅😅 Baby steps though, so I’m pretty proud! Note: Daytona is not supple or on the bit at all which is a daily struggle 🙄 #ImPosting

She’s 6 years old 2. She’s a registered thoroughbred 3. Her JC name is Burbank Pleasures 4. She only had a few rides off the track before I started riding her 5. I actually started riding her around July, as she was already at my barn and Bailey was just put up for sale 6. She doesn’t like carrots or apples🤪 7. She absolutely LOVES peppermints and grooming 8. She’s 16.2hh

  • Thoughts with Al: Supplements As a horse mom (although I don’t own or lease Daytona, I’m still her human), we only want the best for them. When I was getting serious about showing, I knew it would take a toll on Daytona. She’s on the older side + has some arthritis and joint issues. Putting your horse on supplements is a scary thing. You want to make sure you’re only giving them grade A stuff and that you’re not being jipped. @horse_guard reached out to me and I knew that they were the kind of company I wanted to be apart of. Not only are their supplements full of limited, real ingredients but they’re also made in the US and safe to compete with. Putting Daytona on Trifecta has given her energy, made her coat and tail fabulous and I’ve noticed her joints ache a lot less! With that, I wanted to welcome all the new ambassadors to the HG family! You’ve joined an awesome team! 🥰 #HGAthlete

  • Here’s a selfie for your Sunday! 🥳 We had a lesson yesterday and it went pretty well! Daytona had a TON of energy yesterday and I didn’t lunge her beforehand so getting her to collect in the canter was definitely harder than usual! It’s awesome to know that she’s feeling good and 100% tribute that to Trifecta from @horse_guard 🥰 #HGAthlete #SelfieForYourSunday
