Get the drift about continents The way we look at the world changed 107 years ago today when Alfred Wegener presented his theory on 'continental drift' to the German Geological Society, putting forward the notion that the Earth's continents had once been united in a single super land mass named Pangaea that had drifted apart over geological time. Born in Berlin on 1 November 1880, Wegener was an accomplished natural scientist in the fields of astronomy and geology, whose primary research interest was in the relatively new field of meteorology. Day 263: I ended up cycling 130 km today. Only 140 from subway now. I wasn't actually planning on cycling quite so far today but things weren't really going my way. I barely got any sleep last night as there was no matress on my bed, and the window in my room was broken so the room was super loud and full of mosquitoes. I promised myself I'd find a proper place to sleep tonight, so I marked a few hotels on my map. First couple ones didn't exist. Third one litterally had a chicken nesting in the bed. Owner didn't bat an eye. I then cycled on into the dark still looking. It seems that the nepalese have gotten the words Hotel and Restaurant mixed up. So many Dahl bhat restaurants had "Hotel"-signs outside but none of them actually had any rooms. It's like the entire country is crying wolf. When I finally found one that did, I was told they were fully booked after waiting around for an answer for half an hour. I've now finally found a place for the night. Still heavily mosquito-infested, but it will have to do. Going for a shorter day tomorrow. RANT OVER. Could be worse. I'm only 2 days from the tuna sandwich!
I'm cycling for Greenlandic Children, please check out my website to support the cause:
