I barely read anything this week so I’m hoping to finish at least a couple of books! Right now I’m in the middle of reading Breath of Fire by Amanda Bouchet, and Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian! 🌲 Happy FRIDAY, Bookworms!!
Qotd: Do you have any favorite movie adaptations for 2018??
(Bonus Qotd: What are you reading this weekend??)
2018 brought us quite a few awesome movie adaptations, and while I’m not much of a movie person, I looooooved the ones that I did watch. *Love, Simon* and *To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before* were two particular faves, and I could seriously watch them over and over again. I still need to see *The Hate U Give* and *The Darkest Minds*, but I am looking forward to watching those, as well as *Dumplin’*, which is out on Netflix TODAY!! Will you be watching it this weekend?? 😊 What were some of your favorite movie adaptations of 2018??
The weekend has finally arrived, friends! What are you currently reading, or planning to read this weekend?? I’m working my way through *Everless* today, and then I’m thinking about rereading *Dumplin’* again next, before I watch the movie. 🤓 What about you? Reading anything awesome??

This holiday season, I’m especially thankful for... the fact that To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is getting a sequel! Thank you @netflix for bringing P.S. I Still Love You to the big screen!

Tis the season! 🎄It’s my favorite month!! #botmambassador For December’s @bookofthemonth, I chose One Day in December by Josie Silver. ⠀
Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn’t exist anywhere outside of the movies. But then, through the mist on a bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man that she knows, instantly, is the one. Their eyes meet, there’s a moment of pure magic..and then her bus drives away. Certain they’re fated to find eachother again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus and cafe in London, hoping for another glimpse of what she trusts is true love. But she doesn’t find him. Not when it matters, anyway. Instead they reunite at a Christmas party where her best friend Sarah, giddily introduces her new boyfriend - Jack, the man from the bus. ⠀
What follows for Laurie, Sarah and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, roads not taken and destinies reconsidered...❤️

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas... This year’s book Christmas tree is a bit different from what we’ve done in the past. I wanted to mix things up, so we decided to create a white and gold palette with the book spines facing inward and the pages facing out. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but I love the end result! It’s simple and elegant, and I love that we tried something new this Christmas!
❄️ JOUR 8 ❄️
✨Night of miracles by Elizabeth Berg ✨
“They’ll have spaghetti and meatballs and garlic bread and a little salad and then she’ll offer dessert, even though they don’t eat dessert over there. But she’ll offer it, it’s a blueberry-peach crisp with an oatmeal-based topping, so it’s healthy. Healthy enough. She won’t push it, she’ll just say ‘I’m going to have some delicious blueberry-peach crisp, would you like some, too?’ Then if he says yes, she’ll plop a little ice cream on there and if he says anything about that, she’ll say, ‘Well, it comes with that.’ Then he’ll taste it and that will do it.”
Thanks to Netgalley and Random House for allowing me to read this cute and cozy story about friendship and community, set in a small town in Missouri. I loved each and every character, especially Lucille Howard, a feisty 80-something who hosts weekly baking classes from her home. There was so much yummy food referenced in the book, it definitely put me in the mood for some holiday baking!
It’s a quick and short read at under 300 pages. It’s not holiday themed, so don’t feel like you need to squeeze this into your December TBR, but you should definitely check it out!
Apparently this is the second book in a series, which I didn’t realize until I was about 90% in 🤦♀️. Based on my enjoyment of this book, it’s safe to say you don’t need to read the first book, The Story of Arthur Truluv (although it’s probably worth checking out - I’ve promptly added to my TBR).
Have you read any works by Elizabeth Berg? Are all her books this cozy?!
To conclude #ReadingAfrica week Dec 2-8 I’d like to present what in my opinion the greatest piece of literature to come out of Africa. Written by the father of African literature himself, Chinua Achebe, Things Fall Apart is a historical fiction book of life before colonization, the ways of our people and what happened when those “without knees” came to our land as experienced by Okonkwo and his village.
I’m glad the Zimbabwe government got one thing right for once and made it required reading for my O levels as I highly doubt my high school would have had the common sense to. My only wish is to re-read this as and adult and discuss with a group of WOKE individuals. Remind me again why we still don’t have a movie for this artistic genius?
Greetings Reader Friends. Y'all are the best! It is true, Alfonzo stamped his name to an ORIGINAL twist on an OLD GANGSTER story. But, ya'll have helped his legacy live on by reading and sharing. And for the Tentative Types & Stuck in Your Ways Wonders, the holiday season is a great time to read outside the box. ❤ 😀📦📚📚 📚
Alfonzo's Recommended Reading Order: Semira: The Scorned Queen, Luzo: Reign of a Mafia Don, The Serano Brothers and Alfonzo 1-29.
#29ALTRUIST READER'S HIGHLIGHT
So good By Greenleaf December 6, 2018
It’s been a while since I’ve read such a well written novel. I enjoyed every bit of it. Thank you so much for creating an amazing read. Also, I’m happy that the main characters were not killed although this is supposed to be the last in this series, please give us more from the next generation of Alfonzonites. Again I want to think you for a job well done.
OUTSTANDING By DR210
I absolutely love the Alonzo series. Seeing all the characters grow and mature. Crying 😢 when loved ones die. Hoping the couple's get through their crisis. This is the best series ever. Even after 29 books, the story is still strong and never dull. Thank you Ms. Frank.
AlWAYS AMAZING, By Jody
The writing is always amazing and the feelings are real with your writing. Families go through rough times and marriage is never easy. Bravo to the Diaz they are rough and ready, always holding strong for each other. Good to see the youngsters in action becoming the enforcers.

Apologies for my absence this week - it's been a busy one. I spent the morning catching up my book journal. I'm finally done backlogging the last 2 years of books and I'm excited to move into the new year and start tracking my reading via the book journal. 🙂
We're expecting some winter weather in Charlotte this weekend, so I'm planning to snuggle up by the fireplace and power through some books! I'm still hoping to make it to 70 books by the end of the year.
Are you expecting snow this weekend? What's your reading goal for 2018 and have you met it yet?
