They can occur naturally as your body responds to the stress placed on the muscles (known as the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles) while running. The most common symptoms of tight calf muscles are pain, spasms, a "pulling" sensation when you point or flex the foot. . . ✖️The Importance of Strengthening Your Calves ▫️A high level of strength of both the calf muscles (gastrocnemius) and the underlying soleus muscle is required to get on top of recurring calf tightness. Tight calves are sometimes associated with weak calves... So work those calves! 🌐via: Pogo Physio . . ✖️The gastroc attaches above the knee and is a knee flexor, so when your knee is extended and you stretch the calf with ankle dorsiflexion, you are primarily stretching the gastrocnemius. ... Therefore, to stretch the soleus, YOU MUST SLACKEN THE GASTROC FIRST by flexing the knee (swipe 👈🏼). . . 🎥 In this video I’m working with @calstampeders 🏈@klukatron to loosen up his gastroc. Mike is into some serious off season training at the moment and something didn’t feel right when we was sprinting. I added the rotations because he was having issues with his ankle flexors and extensors as they felt “glued “ to his tib and fib bones.
