January 2019 has arrived and I’ve just begun to awaken from my Winter’s Hibernation, I FINALLY made it to mailbox to pick up these extreme gems 💎 .
Heroes of the Gold Rush is an album by the mysterious 🔮 @senorgigio with extremely dope production by @mistercleenmusic ... 🔥this album tells the tale of these two as they cross the western lands in search of their own souls during the #california#goldrush ... this record is #DOPE ... my favorite joints off of it are “three doors” and “foolin’” - Gigio created all album art himself and even drew this dope comic to help illustrate the tale told in “three doors” - SO ORIGINAL - thorough creativity❗️
I also can’t stop bumping “Rotate” off of @senorgigio album “The Tree of Life” - as an emcee myself I think the thing I appreciate the most about these albums is the thoroughness of the concepts Gigio relays... SUPPORT BAY AREA HIP HOP, these are MUST BUYS - BIG salute to Señor Gigio and Mister Cleen 🙌🏻💯👍🏼
Gotta give a Happy Born Day shout out to acclaimed hip hop producer, DJ, independent record label executive, educator and occasional rapper 9th Wonder, who turns 44 today. The Durham, NC native first came onto the scene in 2003 as one-third of the group Little Brother, producing their instant classic debut album The Listening. That same year, 9th released God's Stepson, his own remixed version of Nas' excellent sixth album, God's Son, from the previous year. The project was very well-received and would foreshadow a new trend in remixing entire albums; the most notable of which would be Jay-Z's "farewell", The Black Album (another instant classic, released at the end of 2003 and containing 9th's next huge production credit on the song "Threat"), which spawned a seemingly endless series of remixed versions, including one from 9th himself. Since then, the producer's impressive résumé has grown to include high-profile work for Mary J. Blige, Destiny's Child, De La Soul, Masta Ace, EPMD, the entire Boot Camp Clik, Ludacris, Raekwon, Lloyd Banks, Talib Kweli and countless others; not to mention he has also produced six entire albums for Los Angeles-based emcee Murs (formerly of the Living Legends crew), three albums for Brooklyn representative Buckshot (of Black Moon) and additional full projects for David Banner, Wale, Jean Grae and Skyzoo. He additionally laced the entirety of Little Brother's stellar sophomore album, The Minstrel Show, in 2005 before leaving the group. From an education standpoint, 9th has fittingly worked as a hip hop history instructor, teaching classes at North Carolina Central University (together with Christopher "Play" Martin of Kid 'N Play!) as well as Duke and has additionally become a fellow at Harvard in the university's Hip Hop Archive while also lecturing at various other top universities across the nation. I admire the hell out of that shit. We need more people in hip hop like this man. Did I mention he has his own label? Yup. Jamla Records. Support that shit. (continued)
