  • Finding new lands around each bend... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Did you know that I am a licensed art therapist? I'm a dope and let my registration lapse (strongly advise against letting this happen!!) while I pursued other ventures. 36 CE hours from now that will hopefully be remedied! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When people hear art therapy, many think of a stranger dissecting a person's creation looking for issues. But at its heart, it is truly about asking questions, listening, and learning. It is a beautiful way to grow, and I recommend seeking a registered licensed art therapist to guide you through this process of self reflection and understanding (visit arttherapy.org). I have always, however, used elements of art therapy in my own process of creating. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We should always be asking ourselves questions, challenging questions, and answering ourselves honestly. Creating art can lead us through some of these discoveries by listening to the voice in our heads as well as our physical interactions with the materials. Its all a conversation. But the key is honesty and empathy. Treat yourself kindly and be patient. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So next time you are creating, or even viewing art (on the street, a museum...anywhere!), take a moment to have a conversation with yourself. You may pull your boat up to a new shore. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #healingthroughart #arttherapy

  • hello hello I have been contemplating starting a resource for the intersection between special art ed - therapeutic interventions - and art therapy. I am constantly looking for interventions to use or things for families specifically. I have a lot of information, and I’m friends with cool people who know more than me about each area, so I’d love to have your thoughts and input! add @is.that.permanent and hit me up with ideas 🖤 #arttherapy #reggioemiliaapproach #kidart #therapeuticinterventions #therapy

  • This piece was inspired by the game Celeste. If you haven’t played it, it’s a really cute game about a girl with anxiety who has to learn how to work together with her anxiety to beat the game. Tyler played through it and I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to watch him play a game! The colors are beautiful, the soundtrack is amazing, and we both appreciated the realistic representation of anxiety. And most importantly, the game is always reminding you to breathe. 💖

  • [QUICK PAINTING] Many people think it takes a lot of time to paint something. Although I'm painting for 2 years now and my sketching and painting speed improved, it is really possible to paint something in less than half an hour by only looking really good at the shapes of something (like this palm plant) and just paint it. It doesn't have to perfect!! Please keep that in mind and let go of the feeling it really should look like the real life object. I couldn't draw at all and learning it by doing it and by looking at the shapes very well. Keeping a painting journal and practice as much as possible, taking 20-30 minutes every time is enough to get more comfortable with painting :) How many minutes do you think I took for this painting? A) 10 minutes B) 15 minutes C) 20 minutes D) 30 minutes
