  • My left orbital socket is reconstructed from titanium. I have a prominent scar on my chin that runs deep, severing small nerves, my grin crooked when I smile from ear to ear. A tear line slash makes its crimson appearance when I cry or drink. And countless more sprinkle and line my face where 200 pieces of glass were once imbedded. My left eyebrow grew back defiantly rogue in matching it’s sister. My vision was permanently impaired, I see double every time I look up beyond a 30 degree angle above plane. For over a decade my face was a daily emotional trigger of pain, trauma, loss, fear and guilt. Every time I looked in the mirror it was a reminder of my car accident. The loss of my best friend. The fear that I would continue to lose everyone and everything I loved. The guilt of surviving and not wanting to live. I tried to shield my face in a mask, wearing sharpie lines of eye makeup to deter attention from my scars. And people still asked. Daily. Weekly. “What happened to your face.” I would burst into tears. “Did your cat scratch you?”! I would snap back “my saber tooth tiger?” There was no escape.... (continued in comments)

  • “Anything we cling to creates a maintenance problem for us. It is the true nature of things to change and by failing to let them change or move on, they begin to disappoint us and our attempts to hold on begin to make us stale, and discontent. What we tried to possess, possesses us. Non-attachment does not mean that we don’t care. In fact non-attachment frees us up to be immersed in appreciation of life, and one another. The more we generously share and give away, the more expansive and light we become. The journey of life is towards freedom. A bird cannot hold its perch and fly. Neither can we grasp anything and be free.” Deborah Adele #aparigraha #nonattatchment #nonpossesivness

#aparigraha

  • The mind is purified as we release the weight of the past and the yearnings for specific things in the future- especially if our happiness is dependent on obtaining those things. The mind is clear, powerful, and effectively decisive when we can truly observe the present moment without projecting our ego onto it. Freedom is something we build within. Freedom is a habit - Yung Pueblo 🙏🏼🌊 #aparigraha #santosha #yoga

  • The fifth Yama is Aparigraha meaning non attachment. It’s one I often forget to prioritise but today I realised the importance of it. We can get so attached to the thoughts we think • the expectations we have • the pressures we think we have • the stories we tell ourselves that the joy of the present and the simplicity of life gets masked. 🍃 By simply practicing self trust and self wisdom we practice non attachment. By making the conscious choice to not something own us we practice non attachment. By persistently practice letting go of things that no longer serve us we practice non attachment. And when we show up as ourselves to our mat, to our students, to the world we bravely practice and light the way for others to do so too 🍃 Happy Friday friends 🍃 #nonattachment #aparigraha #thingsilearnfromyoga #practiceyogahealyourworld

  • So last week got away from me and I wasn’t able to post all the Yamas individually like I had planned. Here is all the yamas! We already went through the first of the 5 principles of Yama, ahimsa on the first post/limb for #8limbsofyoga last week. . . . The other 4 principles under Yama are: . Satya: truthfulness. Yes, as in tell no lies, but also be true to yourself, as well as practicing ahimsa when telling a truth to another. . Asteya: non- stealing. Yes, do not steal material things from other people, but also, do not steal time, energy, or peace of mind. . Brahmacharya: continence, conservation of energy. Where attention goes, energy flows. keeping in mind that not everything is worth our energy, some things will drain us and be unnecessary while others will bring positive results. Choose wisely. . Aparigraha: non-greed, non attachment, non possessiveness. Think of the popular saying “it’s not the destination that matters it’s the journey” . Don’t be attached to outcomes, or things, or situations, it’s all part of the journey so just flow and enjoy. . . . #the8limbsofyoga #yogasutras #morethanyogapostures #theyamas #ahimsa #satya #asteya #bramahcharya #aparigraha #peace #love #respect #yogalifestyle #yogaisforeverybody #mind #soul #connection #practice

  • Welcome to the last day of #YamasInYourLife - Thank you so much for joining us on this journey. Today we talk about the 5th Yama of Yoga Sutras - Aparigraha. . 🌷What is Aparigraha? ☘️A vow to not be greedy, a commitment to be non-possessive. . 🌷How is that beneficial? ☘️ The drive to collect and hoard things is insatiable. No matter how many makeup brushes we buy, how many yoga leggings we own, how excellent our cold pressed juicer is - there will always be something more attractive, something better that we will want to possess. My mother used her Godrej Almirah for 25 years before it literally fell apart. All our lives we ate our meals on the same dining table her father bought her. My father even had the same soap dish for two decades. They never jumped from one item to another - our world today is such that we will get bored of a brand new, barely used item in a fraction of a time and seek out a new one. There’s no end to it - they’re only distractions for our mind which is not used to being still. . 🌷How can I start practicing this? ☘️ By questioning every purchase and every item that we want to bring into our lives. Is it really necessary? This of course is very subjective as what’s essential and what’s luxury is highly debatable. A good way to begin is to check how many items you own which you’ve not used in the last 6 months and discard them all. If that’s difficult for you make it a 1 year horizon. If we’ve not used something for an entire year, we really need to question if we even need it. . That’s exactly what I’m doing knee deep in this Pandora’s Box which has all the clothes which I don’t wear but I’ve kept them around for many pointless reasons. This is what I’ve chosen to discard 🙏🏼 . 🧘🏻‍♀Hosts:  @mintyogini @mikaila_nyc @yoganama . 🎁Sponsors: @gocleveryoga @purepranalabel @kalsiayurveda @omsweeeetom @kundalini_clothing . #yoga #yogini #igyogachallenges #yogachallenge #yogasutras #aparigraha #hoarding #igyogacommunity #yogaoffthemat #yoga4growth #yogabeyondasana #yogateacher #yoganama #yogavibes #yogaphilosophy #writersofinstagram #indianyogacommunity #mumbaiyoga #tuesdaythoughts #treepose #traditionalyoga #liveyouryoga #yamas

  • Day #14 of the #22affirmations22 challenge. Today, I am grateful for yoga. I am grateful for my mind and my body; for my health; and for my happiness. I am grateful for the moments of discomfort, followed by sweet release. I am grateful for opening and for letting go. I am grateful for healing. I am grateful for savasana. I am grateful for my grandmother. And for my Uncle Dave who left a lasting imprint on my life. I am grateful for pretty fireplaces, even ones that aren’t functioning. And old bricks. And pretty tapestries. I am grateful for the other women in class tonight, even though I had never met them. There are so many things to be grateful for. I think the most wonderful part of this challenge is that I find my list getting longer and longer every single day. And I suppose that was likely the intention- for both the challenge, and myself. 💜 @rivkaloha #yoga #health #wellness #gratitude #ahimsa #aparigraha #yamasandniyamas #lokahsamastahsukhinobhavantu #hatharajayoga

  • 🌼 A P A R I G R A H A 🌸 & 💐 A S T E Y A 🌻 Aparigraha, a Sanskrit word to mean non hoarding, and taking what is appropriate; Asteya, a Sanskrit word for non-stealing - we know not to steal from others, but we often steal from ourselves 🤔 My mantras for today are "I have enough" "I am enough" "I take enough" "I do enough" #aparigraha "in giving, I receive" #asteya I've read the chapters but I'm behind in my posts so here's Day 12 and 13 combined! Day 14 to follow in a bit... 🍎 Eating what you need ⌚Taking the time you need for self care 🤗 But not keeping all your time just for you...(it might end up being anti-ahimsa or asteya e.g. you let someone else cook dinner every day even if that person also had a long day... now you're inadvertently taking more of their energy!) 💗 getting the love you need from others without stealing the time they need for themselves or perhaps from others besides you. 😴 sleeping enough! ⛅ get enough fresh air 💕 give to yourself so you have something to give to others . . . . . #yoga4growth #myyogajourney #mantratribe #yogamindjanuary2019 #yogainspiration

  • For #aparigraha, I want to let go of something you can't see visibly here. As a writer (anyone who has to pitch, audition, or try out can relate), it's common to self reject. This means convincing yourself not to submit your idea at all. Studies showed women (female-ID) do this more than men. This week I have to work on a pitch for a new comic book short story. I WILL PITCH IT. I may get rejected like last time but I'm going to submit my idea. ✒🖌🗳📤 Reposted from @mintyogini - 🎉 . Come join us January 10-14 in #yamasinyourlife, a challenge where we will explore the five Yamas described in the Yoga Sutras of Patañjali paired with yoga poses along with insights on the wisdom of the relevant sutras and our own modern take on how we can implement the essence of his teachings in our modern life. . Patañjali refers to the five Yamas, the ethical guidelines and first step for practice mentioned in his Ashtanga Yoga system, as the great vow to be practiced by all, regardless of any external circumstances. During this challenge, we'll take a closer look at each Yama separately to ponder on their importance and hopefully make sense on them, and find little ways in which we can introduce them into our everyday life to make our yoga practice more meaningful. . This challenge is for everyone, whether you are already familiar with the Yamas or a completely newbie -- let's explore them together 🎈 . 📜How to play: 1) Repost this flyer and tag a few friends who might want to join! 2) Follow all hosts and sponsors. 3) Take a pic/video of the daily practice/pose and post it using the challenge hashtag. Don't forget to tag all hosts and sponsors in every post! 4) Be sure your account is set to public so we can see your posts in the gallery. 5) Check in with your fellow participants, make new friends, and have fun! . 🧘🏻‍♀️Hosts: @mikaila_nyc @yoganama @mintyogini . 🎁Sponsors: @gocleveryoga @purepranalabel @kalsiayurveda @omsweeeetom @kundalini_clothing . ✔️ Daily lineup: 1 Ahimsa — A cooling pose 2 Satya — Heart opener 3 Asteya — A pose with bound arms/prayer hands 4 Brahmacharya — Traditional meditative seated pose 5 #Aparigraha — Any pose with an item we plan to let go of

  • 🎉New Challenge 🎉 #Yamasinyourlife # Day5: Aparigraha: any pose with item we plan to let go of. 'It is not the receiver who is blessed but rather the giver.” Swami Vivekananda ‌Aparigraha the fifth and final yama refers to non-craving and non-clinging. This can be directly applied to our yoga practice.Forgive, Practice and be generous to yourself. Share your time, your energy, your knowledge, your attention, your connections. Donate. Volunteer. Give in whatever way you can. This brings satisfaction. Money can't buy everything. We have a lot of stress build up in every day life may be due to office work load,at home ,relationship or heavy traffic, rat race or competition but one can not be free from it.Declutter and let go emotion., ego, unnecessary stuffs we carry in our mind or fill our home with.In yoga practice rather than fancy yoga pants yoga mat my practice should nclude simplicity deep breathing with spirituality. But at the end we can not totally run away from materialistic world we have to fill our stomach pay our mortgages and look after our loved ones. We have to maintain balance in between them.Yoga teaches us how to combat with pain suffering and losses and does magic✨🎩✨ to our senses. Aparigraha is a invitation to allow space for acceptance compassion and gratitude. Be satisfied and contended what ever we have. Wanting for more is never ending thus never fulfilled. Love other creations of nature 🌿🍃and yourself. Yoga makes it happen. For last day of this challenge I am offering Kamatkarasana as my let go completely. I love this pose as it relieves my back hamstrings and IT band. As for me,what has changed is my relationship to my body. Thanks 🙏💕🙂to all lovely hosts and generous sponsors for introducing us with such a wonderful and informative challenge. 💖Hosts: @mikaila_nyc @yoganama @mintyogini 🎁Sponsors: @gocleveryoga @purepranalabel @kalsiayurveda @omsweeeetom @kundalini_clothing #kamatkarasana #aparigraha #yoga #yogini #yogalove #yogagirl #yogalife #yogachallenge #yogaposes #yogaforbeginners #fitmoms #fitindia #igyoga #yogatime #yogaindia #fitnessmotivation #namasteindia #yogaavenue #unlockingyoga #yogaeveryday #yoginisofinstagram

  • So January...all kinds of things happening. All kinds of reflection and goal setting and review of our lives. . . . Something I’ve been working on since I started understanding yoga and it’s philosophy is non-attachment. It’s one of the five yamas within the 8 limbs of yoga. It’s something I didn’t realize I needed SO much work on. First few weeks of this year have definitely made me aware of my attachments. 😬 . . . Aparigraha isn’t easy but goodness it’s necessary. Basically it helps us pack light enough for our trip through life, while leaving room to care deeply about things or people and enjoy fully all that we choose to participate in. Our expectations can hold us captive and most times disappointed, but somehow we always choose our attachments rather than the freedom we have. . . . Anything we cling to creates maintenance problems for us. . . . Monday mood ✨

  • Yoga asanas are not something we master. They are gifts the practice gives us when dedication is paired with patience. And. We only borrow them. Maybe for a moment, maybe a month, or maybe for years, but at some point you have to give them back to where they came from- your practice- with a bow of gratitude for what you learned about yourself from them, and then let it go.... Pincha Mayurasana was gifted to me in 2018. I know I’m only borrowing it, and I will have to give it back before I’ll want to, but here’s to an asana that taught me I can surprise myself and that there’s strength hidden inside me beyond my limiting beliefs. #aparigraha #tapas #thisisyoga #beyogasc #blessed #giveitback

  • ✨APARIGRAHA - NON-HOARDING✨ Fifth yama of yoga sutra. . . It an owe of " non greediness "or the ability to accept only what is appropriate. . . The more we own, the more enslave we become. Learn to let go,i know, its more difficult than saying ,changes are never easy but once you practice non hoarding /deculttering , you will feel light, free, more clear and less burdened 😊 . . . Let go all materialistic and non materialistic things and free yourself from a burden of being greedy and not satisfied. . . If you know me personally, you must have seen a girl who loves her clothes and makeup, i didn't like to share it with anyone but from last 6 months i am a different person, i have given most of my things to people, if someone likes something, i give them with a smile. It is more easy to do than i used to think.I feel more spacious in my mind and thoughts now.Slowly learning to let go my feelings which don't serves anymore. . . . ⛔I'm giving up my shameful habit of using plastic bottles from today and trying to convince my family not to use them too, ( we are still doing debate on this) . . I am a food lover,( can't stop thinking about food and never liked sharing my food with anyone ) and often found myself eating without awareness.I am going to feed cow, street dogs and needy human on Monday(other day as well, if possible) and also decided to do fasting on Monday. 🙏 Not much but at least something! . . . Last day of #yamasinyourlife . . . Thank you all lovely hosts @mintyogini @mikaila_nyc @yoganama For this yoga challenge, it was a lifetime lesson to shape and feed our mind with positivity and learn self discipline. Yoga sutra has so much to give , it will take time to learn and implement things slowly but your wisdom and knowledge were eye opening🙏

  • The 5th & final Yama of the 5 Yamas (the moral, ethical and societal guidelines for a practicing yogi) is Aparigraha or non-possesiveness or non-greediness! And this, I feel, should be my middle name 😃 I'm the queen of purging / decluttering / non-hoarding! So much so that we don't own a TV, or a microwave oven or even a car now 😇 I know, I know, this sounds a little extreme... But my way of decluttering is very simple - If we haven't used something in 6 months (except books & seasonal stuff) then it goes - no mercy, no hoarding, no 'we might use it later' reasoning. Believe it or not, we hadn't used either the TV, the oven or the car in 6 months, so they went. I apply the same rule to clothes, shoes, electronic items, utensils, cosmetic products, etc. I don't even keep mementos. I hate clutter and I hate it even more when we hoard things that we don't need but might be of extreme use to someone else. . To be honest, I've always liked decluttering but never to this extreme. 3 years ago when I gave away the first major item, the TV, I did feel weird but since then, it's been very easy. . And to be doubly honest, I do like new and shiney things, I do like spending money and occasionally I do end up acquiring stuff that we don't really need... But I also quickly give them away. Just because I made a mistake, I don't stick to it. . This year, I want to give away books... Those books that I know I would never reread. They've served their purpose in my life, now it's time to find them other homes. So on the final day of #yamasinyourlife yoga challenge, I'm offering a yogic squat or Malasana and with folded hands I'm thanking those books and saying goodbye. It feels fantastic ❤ . With this, another amazing challenge comes to an end... A challenge that has been fun and super educative ❤ deeply thankful to our hosts and sponsors for bringing this challenge to us 😍🙏 . 🧘🏻‍♀️Hosts: @mikaila_nyc @yoganama @mintyogini . 🎁Sponsors: @gocleveryoga @purepranalabel @kalsiayurveda @omsweeeetom @kundalini_clothing

  • 🔶 The fifth yama is Aparigraha: Aparigraha it's often translated as non-greed, non-possisveness and non-attatchment. This important yama teaches us to take only what we need, keep only what serves us in the moment, and to let go when the time is right. This applies both for material things as for life situations, and of course for the asanas practice as well. There is a huge difference in between resignation and letting go, when you let go you know you are doing your best, but you do it just in pleasure, not waiting for the fruits of your actions, they may come but don´t lose the opportunity to be present, if your mind is mostly in the future, in the imaginary world of possibilities, then you can get attached to how you want the things work for you. And as Buda said once, the roots of suffering is attachment. Aparigraha offer us a gate to freedom becase without worrying about the results, the freedom rely less on external and material possessions to bring us happiness, and so comes the freedom to experience everything life has to offer at every moment, whatever that may be. . . 🔸Questions to ask ourselves about aparigraha: -Do you have much things you don´t use any more?? By having just what we need, then we move towards living a less cluttered life both in our homes and in our minds. (of course you don´t need to be extremist, find the balance) -Do you think too often about life past situations/persons? If you are on the past you can not be on the present, observe how much energy of your daily life your past takes of you! there are many tools you can use to heal your feelings about the past, learn to forgive yourself or these situations/persons that are taking your energy away, and remember that you are the only responsable of your happiness. . #yoguini #yogaphilosophy #health #healing #loveyourlife #beyondasana #aparigraha #allabouttheyamas #ashtangayoga #mojacar

  • Aparigraha... Este es uno de los Yamas sobre el que más reflexiones hago últimamente... Desapego material, no acaparar, no acumular... #aparigraha #yoga #yogastudio #patanjali #svadhyaya #rajayoga #etimologia #mariamoliner #mediterranean #farmhouse #retreat #traditional #antique #rural #vintage #plantlady #elche
