Have you ever thought about adding something completely custom to your invitation design?
Its definitely something to think about!
This is a great way to show your personality and style for your big day. Not only that, but talk about the first impression you’ll make when you include something that’s so unmistakably you—there’s no doubt that you’ll catch your guests’ attention!
Sparking that interest at the very beginning with your save the date and invitation design is key. Your invites set the tone for your guests as far as what they can expect for your wedding.
No pressure whatsoever, but we’re begging you, please, no matter what, don’t go print your invitations on standard copy paper at your local FedEx and call it day. Pleeeeeeaaaassseeeeeee.
Imagine the first impression that would make for your guests? Probably not a great one.
On the flip side, we totally get budgets and that sometimes invitations aren’t the highest priority. This is why hiring a stationery designer for your big day is so important! We have many, many tricks up our sleeves to create something authentic and personal with any and all budgets.
Don’t let your budget get in the way of creating custom stationery that’s truly you. Let your personality shine through by hiring a designer who can make it happen, even with some restrictions.

I chatted so much this morning in our stories that I’ve ran out of words for this caption. But, thankfully, this letterpress cutie is fun to look at, so no words necessary.
If you want to watch me try a new thing this morning and actually turn the camera on us for once, definitely go check it out! We’re answering some questions about our business that you guys asked us yesterday!
If you have more questions for us or are interested in learning more about us and our business, shoot us a DM or comment below! We’d love to hear from you.

Sometimes, being an introvert makes being open and honest here on social media quite challenging.
We would much rather hide behind our designs and paper samples than show who our personality through videos in our stories or god forbid actually talk on camera.
As difficult as it may be for us, we also know it’s incredibly important for you to learn more about us, which is why we’re going to try something new and actually put our faces first.
We want nothing more than for you to know, like and trust us so that when it comes time to work together, you already feel like you know us. Who knows, maybe we will even become friends outside of this cyber space!
To get started though, we have no idea what to chat about, so what do you want to know? Do you have any questions for us? Or a topic that you want to know more about?
Let us know what you want to hear from us in the comments below or shoot us a DM!

Did you know that we offer calligraphy services with all of our designs?
It’s true! We like to think of ourselves as your one-stop-shop for all your stationery needs.
F U N F A C T
We both graduated college with degrees in graphic design and while we were in school we had so many incredibly opportunities to try all sorts of different mediums.
We took drawing, 3D design, metals, sculpture, ceramics, photography and one of my personal favorites, calligraphy.
Now, I’m not gonna lie to you, I dreaded going to my calligraphy class. I know I just said it was my favorite, so allow me to correct myself. The class topic was my favorite, but the class itself, ehhhh not so much. Here’s why...
Our professor was very strict and felt that it was important that we learn the basics of calligraphy. To her, this meant using tools like popsicle sticks that we cut at 45° angle, dipped in ink and drew letters by scraping the cut popsicle stick across the paper. Have you ever seen those old books that have the old English style writing in them? 👉🏻 Swipe to the last pic if you have no idea what I’m talking about.
This is what she had us do in class. Not cute, am I right?
We learned some great basics that did not include using a popsicle stick, thank god. We learned what tools to use and how to use them. We also learned how to stay consistent with your letters and keep good letter spacing.
Everything we learned in the class, good and bad, we refer to in our business today. Yes, our professor taught some very traditional techniques, but we were able to take what we learned and make it completely our own.
Have you ever thought about taking a calligraphy course? Or have you already? Comment below if your interested in taking a class or what your experience was like if you already have! We’d love to hear what you think! 🙃👇🏻

Being sick and running a small business are two things that do no go well together.
I’m sitting here writing this post with a box of tissues on the end table along with my giant glass of water, because hydration. A fresh cup of tea that will politely steam my face as I sip it in one hand and a nice bowl of boiling, beige oatmeal in the other. I don’t have the appetite for much else, so the oatmeal will do.
There’s all of this and meanwhile in the other room my laptop is waiting for me to send client emails that are piling up, design invitations that have quickly become over due and manage a business that seems to keep moving forward with or without me.
As a small business owner, there is no such thing as a sick day. Yes, there are days where I put my foot down and simply say “not today!”, because for ones sanity, you have to do that every once in a while. But that doesn’t happen very often.
On the bright side, we have decided that it’s important to step away for just a little while to clear our heads. It’s also good for us to spend time together every once in a while just as friends, not as co-owners.
Which is why we took the time and planned a trip together to San Francisco! We fly out at the end of this week, so my I’m working hard to kiss this cold goodbye.
If you have any recommendations on what we should do on our trip in San Francisco, we’d love for you to share them with us! Feel free to leave a comment below or shoot us a DM with your suggestions.

With all the snow and being cooped up inside all day, this is how I feel about this weekend.

We always have every intention of doing a #fridayintroductions post, but somehow Friday’s tend to just fly right past us and we miss it every week. So, we’re just gonna roll with a #saturdayintroduction instead. Is that cool?
With that, hi! 👋🏻 We’re Samantha and Lauren, the owners and creatives behind East + West Designs.
Through our business, we create customized stationery for those in love. Your big day should be all about you, which is why each and every design we make is completely customized to reflect your personality as a couple.
Lauren and I started daydreaming about this business back in college. Our friends were getting engaged left and right and since we were both majored in graphic design so many of our friends reached out asking if we could help with their invitations.
This experience sparked something in us that this is what we were supposed to be doing. So, we started asking more friends, sorority sisters and family members if we could design their wedding stationery.
As more and more people took a chance on us, the more we saw our business grow! Back then, we had no idea what we were doing or what it was going to take to legitimately start a business. But, we learned!
Our evenings were full of online courses, Googling and calling other professionals to help us make a foundation for our business. We learned e v e r y t h I n g we could about what it takes to start a business.
There were some serious tough moments and a lot of people doubted us. There were even days where we doubted ourselves.
In the end, we kept moving forward and now we’re here today! Still serving couples and building a business we love. We have h u g e plan ahead of us for this next year and we’re beyond excited to grow and expand the way we serve each and every one of you!
Do you have any questions about our business? Please ask us below or shoot us a DM!

Stepping outside of your comfort zone is terrifying, but in the end can be incredibly rewarding.
This week we faced so many challenges, but we came out the other side with new experiences under our belts and a whole lot of lessons learned.
Being a small business owner, we live outside our comfort zone every single day. Because of this, we fail constantly and learn so much from each trail and error. As designers, we’re also incredibly vulnerable with everything we create, because art and design is completely opinion-based. There are very few rules, only good practice.
In the end, if we didn’t step outside of our comfort zone that very first day and continue to every day moving forward, we wouldn’t be where we are today. 🖤
So, we encourage you to explore outside of your comfort zone and see what can happen! ✨
Have you already? Were you successful? Or maybe you faced some challenges you haven’t before? Either way, tell us about your experience in the comments below! 👇🏻

Recently, work has looked a whole lot like this.
This past year has been incredible for us in so many ways. We’ve grown more than we ever expected, we’ve been challenged in more ways than we can count and we’re so, so ready for what lies ahead in 2019.
We’ve got some big plans up our sleeves that we’re bursting at the seams to share with you! Our number one goal each every year is to learn how to serve you the best way we possibly can, which is why we’re making some adjustments and creating some new things to E+W!
So, stay tuned!! Because you’re not going to want to miss what we having coming next!

I really miss the color green in the winter! In the summer, the trees out my window are so full and bring so much color into my house. But in the winter, the trees are just brown twigs.
Thank goodness for our client’s wedding colors and bringing some green back into my life!

I’m spending the morning picking out colors, ordering envelopes, and catching up on some much needed design time.
Are we the only ones that wake up stupid early just to get started on work? I think it’s because we love what we do!
